The Football League Championship, also known as The Championship, is second simply to the Premier League in the English football league system.
Before the 2004-05 season, the Football League Championship was called the Football League First Division. Among non-top-flight football divisions, the Championship has established itself on the list of wealthiest in the world and the 6th richest in Europe.
The Football League Championship (FLC) is in fact a new version of the old First Division that arrived to being after clubs from the old first division broke away in the 1992-93 season to make the premier league. Swansea City, Norwich and Queens Park Rangers will be the three Championship teams that have got promoted to the Premier League in the 2011-12 season. They’ve replaced Birmingham City, Blackpool and West Ham United who got relegated from the Premier League.
Despite its subservience to the EPL, there’s no discounting the significance of the Championship to the future of English football, as a hold of native talent. This is especially so, while the EPL will be dominated by players of foreign origin.
